Recreation Therapist

The person selected for the Recreation Therapist position will be developing, planning, and managing recreational services. Duties include leading person-centered activities, coordinating community inclusion opportunities, organizing recreation resources and monthly calendar of events for assigned homes. The Recreation Therapist will have continuous communication with treatment teams and maintain regular contact with house recreation liaisons. The person selected will also develop and maintain relationships with outside organizations to offer recreational opportunities integrated with community members. Effective communication, writing, and organizational skills and a desire to participate as part of a team are essential for this position.

Salary Range:
From $49202 to $62806 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Must be in title or on the Civil Service eligible list for this location or be eligible for transfer under section 70.1 in a designated title determined by the New York State Department of Civil Service. PROVISIONAL
Qualifications:
Candidates must have:
Either 1. A Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation; Or 2. a Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education or Adaptive Physical Education AND one year of experience in planning and administering a therapeutic recreation program which involved developing and coordinating therapeutic recreational activities for geriatric patients/residents, individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals with psychiatric disabilities, individuals that are physically challenged, or individuals in treatment for chemical dependency; Or 3. current credentials as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) issued by the National Council For Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), 7 Elmwood Drive, New City, NY 10956. A therapeutic recreation program is defined as a professional service that assists people with disabilities and other limitations to have a leisure life-style that encompasses functional independence, health and well-being through treatment, education and participation. Therapeutic recreation is practiced in clinical, community and residential treatment settings.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
