BOE Job Summary The Payroll Assistant is a professional position that assists in all activities regarding the management of employee compensation.
This position will enter payroll information, calculate wages, make payments, and maintain employee files.
The Payroll Assistant will become knowledgeable of multiples union contracts regarding deductions, wages, and special provisions.
The Payroll Assistant must understand the confidentiality of the position, pay attention to detail, possess good math skills while working in a timely manner with accuracy.
The position reports directly to the Payroll Manager.
Essential Responsibilities & Requirements Manage compensation packages using payroll software Collect and verify timekeeping information for all employees Calculate pay according to hours worked incorporating leaves and overtime Calculate bonuses and commissions when appropriate Manage and calculate taxes and deductions Update union benefits and pay rates as needed Corrections to payroll in regards to layoffs and changes Initiate periodical payments timely either by preparing and administering checks or making direct deposits through a bank payment system Issues statements and invoices and maintain records Update paper and electronic payroll records by entering adjustments on pay rates, employee status changes etc.
Calculate unemployment and severance payments Deal with complaints and questions regarding payroll from employees and upper management Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in payroll Prepare and submit reports to the unions monthly.
Basic Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Familiarity with general accounting principles Experience in data collection, entry and reporting with great attention to detail and confidentiality Solid knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and regulations Excellent computer skills particularly with Excel spreadsheet Excellent math and numerical skills Outstanding organizational and time management skills Excellent communication abilities with aptitude in problem-solving Preferred Qualifications Associate or BS/BA degree in accounting or business administration is a plus Proven experience as payroll Assistant or payroll manager Union payroll experience a plus Physical Requirements Sit for up to 8 hours a day with frequent verbal communication Use of a computer keyboard on a regular basis Frequent filing of documentation which may require stooping, bending, reaching or kneeling Work in a climate controlled office environment with minimal noise and physical exertion Benefits 401k with match Best in class insurance benefits Overtime potential Paid Time Off Holiday Pay Job Type:
